A Little Bit About Me...

I worked at Mathnasium for two years. Mathnasium is a math tutoring center for children ranging from kindergarten to graduating high schoolers. I taught everything from basic arithmetic to calculus. I tutored calculus at the college level. I independently advertised my tutoring services. I mostly tutored Calculus I (not including linear algebra).
I work as a one-on-one tutor. It is my teaching philosophy that the best tutor leads the child to discover the answer himself/herself. Thus, I employ various techniques to help the child think about the problem in a different way. For example, when teaching a child to do arithmetic, for example, adding 8, I would tell the child to add 10 and then subtract 2. This leads to quick math computation and a better understanding of math foundations.

A Little Bit About Me...

I was introduced to teaching as a guitar teacher and loved the field of education ever since. My first school experience was teaching 7th and 8th grade social studies in Queens, N.Y.in 1979. Finally, I found my niche in high school teaching various subjects such as Physical Science, Biology, Social Studies and tutoring after school programs for the passing of the high school graduation tests. In 1993 I moved to Georgia and became fully certified in the fields of Physical Science, Health and P.E.and ESOL. I successfully tutored high school students to pass the graduation tests with a >95% rate.
My years of experience have taught me that no two students are alike, especially in the 'tutoring' arena. I have earned a Bachelor's Degree in English, with a Concentration in Creative Writing. As a student of Kentucky State University, I have explored my passion through words (i.e. Poetry).The Education that I've received from my University, allowed me to not only be successful in my field, but I have written over 100 Poems; which I'm in the process of getting them copyright, as well as published.
