I beieve that learning comes about through constant questioning. The student needs to review where they are now and then be led through the new material by small steps. The student then needs to step back and review the connections between these steps. When the student begins to see the logic of mathematics the easier it is to retain the material. I feel the need for tutoring is the need to simply obtain information in a form that is different from the one presented in the classroom. As a tutor, I work to break things down into their constituent pieces and explain each of these pieces in turn. This is a more time-intensive method of instruction, of course, as the breaking down of information is totally dependent on the way it must be done for it to make sense to the student.
