I was determined to be the first to attend and graduate from college out of a big family. I have learned different aspects of Psychology to apply to everyday life. In the last 10 years, I have been working with troubled teens to help them get their lives back on track. I have also done some tutoring in between. Working with different age groups, have shown me that every child is their own individual. I get to know the children I work with to understand the best approach to take with them. After graduating from the University of Miami, I taught Kindergarten, a 3rd/4th grade combination, 6th grade, and computers/technology. After having children, I transitioned to tutoring students, some with special needs including, dyslexia, auditory processing, traumatic brain injury, ADHD, and others. For the last 4 years, I have been a Reading Resource teacher, working with students in phonemic awareness, fluency, and comprehension. In my current job, I work with students in Kindergarten through the fourth grade. My students enjoy their time with me and have all improved their skills significantly. But a person has to believe they can do it first and I believe everyone can learn and should be given the opportunity I ask a lot of questions to get the students thinking. I believe in teaching young people and the adults I have worked with to think critically fist. Then I work with them on being able to articulate and write their ideas down...subject matter follows naturally if they have the confidence and can just think for themselves not just spit back facts and what others want to hear. Each person learns at an individual pace. I use the Gardner system of multiple intelligences to facilitate individual learning style. I do not believe something is impossible to learn, or unteachable. Patience is a moral and ethic rule with my personal professional style. I have spent much of my spare time working within the community at youth centers, soup kitchens and veteran administration homes. Teaching has been my life. All children learn in different ways and there are many ways of teaching the same concept to get the student to understand. I am friendly, respectful, honest, efficient and determined. I believe that students that are given information that is not always done in the same way in a classroom gives them an advantage. There is not always time to be one-on-one and given strategies that are much simpler to understand and put into writing and realize that it is not a job to write; it can be challenging in a fun manner.
