Patient tutor wants to help you with your learning goals!

I have two children at home that I am always teaching. During high school, I often tutored anyone who needed it, particularly in the Anatomy and Physiology classes. I have taken 4 years total of A & P between high school and college, and have passed each course with an "A". English has been a very strong subject for me. I took Advance Placement classes for college credit in HS, and received the highest score on my exam in the school.I thoroughly enjoy tutoring children.
Very patient. I have felt firsthand the difference that a patient tutor can make in the journey of learning a difiicult subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a passionate mentor of youth and children in a church setting. For 5 years I have mentored a youth group of 12-25 junior high and high school students. As a Sunday School teacher and Youth leader for ten years, I am experienced with group teaching and specialize in one-on-one tutoring/teaching. I have successfully homeschooled my own 3 children and tutored public elementary school children, one on one, for Club Z. My vast life experience with youth and my Bachelor of Science from Kent State University have both provided me with a wealth of knowledege and ability that I strongly desire to share.
Encouraging youth and children to reach for their full potential is my life passion. I am a profoundly patient individual with a gift of encouragement. I possess a fervent belief in each person's extreme worth. My belief drives me to draw out the abilities and gifts I recogniz ... read more

The method of teaching used will depend on the subject and student. As a general rule, I prefer method of explanation, demonstration, and drill. The person being tutored must have a desire to learn. This can be fostered in children by explaining how they will benefit from learning the material.
I am a Systems Engineer with a BS in Business and a MS in Computer Science. Systems Engineering involves getting disparate systems, equipment, and/or people to work together to accomplish a goal. It requires broad knowledge of many subjects and the ability to communicate that knowledge, clearly and unambiguously, either orally or in writing, to others. I am a former naval officer with a current TS/SCI clearance. To maintain this clearance I must remain above reproach in all conduct, public and private. I have experience with teaching having completed three semesters of internships through my undergraduate and graduate programs; I taught Kindergarten, First and Seventh grades. In said roles, I was given full control of the classroom by my mentoring supervisors. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and impacting young lives (most of these students came from low socio-economic backgrounds and were gravely in need of guidance). I generated creative lesson plans and taught according to state standards. I also successfully dealt with behavioral issues and worked closely with not only the students, but with the parents and fellow faculty. In college, I tutored in Biology and Health/Medicine classes for one year.
Through my extensive coursework and research and practical application in the classroom, I found quite quickly that there are several different learning styles. It is important to create ... read more

Over the years (as undergrad and graduate), I have tutored middle school and elementary age students in various subjects. I have also been a resource for undergrad and graduate health science students while serving as a graduate assistant (public health master's program). I proctored exams and held tutoring and review sessions prior to testing. I have two master's degrees, three undergraduate degrees, and experience as a paramedic, nurse, and substitute teacher.
I believe in completing an individual needs assessment and designing a study approach around that assessment. I believe in constant reinforcement and reassessment. I also believe it is useful to utilize as many and as varied forms of instruction as possible (written, audio-visual, demonstration, etc.) to solidify a concept. Promoting thorough understanding rather than route memory and recognition skills is paramount.

Everyone's teaching style is an accumulation of the teachers they have met. My favorite teachers were tough, they pushed me to do my best, and encouraged me to draft, edit, and to have high expectations for myself. Their goals were realistic, and relevant. As teacher, I want to give each student an advantage, over other students. I believe that writing and reading may be the most important thing a child can learn, but more importantly love and continue to do throughout their life. I am patient, flexible, and motivated. I strive to make the difference.
My teaching experience began in high school, when I would review and edit my classmates essays. On several occasions, I also went through essays line by line. In addition, I taught swim lessons to preschool aged children, and helped coach crew to high school aged students. Throughout college, I continued to aid my peers wi ... read more

Throughout college I was a tutor with a Learning Center. I worked with children in grades K-12. At this center, we helped build reading and math skills individually and in groups. I was also a private tutor for a high school student. Together we improved her study skills and organization. I assisted her with writing assignments, projects, and daily homework. I also worked in the Camden County school system as a substitute teacher and secretary. At Mercer University, I earned my BA in Communications and Theater Arts, and an English minor. I also hold certifications through GACE (Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators) in Early Childhood Education and Middle Grades Language Arts.
The most important element of achieving success in school is self confidence. The way I help build that in children is by being extremely positive, supportive, and full of praise. I observe ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe the greatest asset to learning for anyone at any age is learning "how" to learn. I like to use modern techniques and ideas to creatively teach a child or adult a new concept. I am patient and unique.
I have a passion for teaching and as such opened a tutoring service that I ran for four years. I hold a Bachelors of General Studies from Valdosta State University and will graduate with my Master of Business Administration in May 2010. I excel at tutoring in English, sociology, psychology, mathematics, science, literature, and social studies.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is one of encouragement and positive reinforcement. I always conveyed the importance of good study habits and how vital it was to their success. I taught them that education is an ongoing process with failure as well as successes, but whatever the outcome, they must always put forth their best effort. My primary purpose in this diverse teaching style was to establish a positive rapport the students and be able to bring out their hidden potential.
In my experience as a substitute teacher in the Irving Texas School District I gained a new passion for the struggle that children face everyday. To actually see first hand that no child is left behind was not only challenging but rewarding. During my two years of service I learned that it not only takes a commitment of time beyond measure but also a great responsibility of the heart to continue until you make a differ ... read more

As a University of North Florida graduate, I was driven to plant the seeds of learning and touch the lives of students. I have earned a bachelors degree in Elementary Education, which has enabled me to gain an understanding in teaching grades 1-6. I have taught second grade in the public school system for five years. I have a real love for children and feel rewarded as I see growth and development in my students
The reason why I chose the teaching profession is because I want to be able to make a difference in the life of a child. I use many different teaching techniques so that I can meet the needs of individual students. I use visual, verbal, and hands-on teaching strategies.
