Being a tutor for grades 6-8 was different because they had the basics. They needed to be informed and focused. After completing my Master of Science degree in Literacy Education, I went on to work as a Reading Specialist in New York City. I gained extensive experience in working with children with a wide variety of reading difficulties. I was able to structure sessions to meet the individual needs of my students. I went on to teach English Language Arts to fifth and sixth grade students where I incorporated authentic literature and read-alouds into my curriculum.
