The hallmark of my teaching at Colby was my availability to students who needed academic help. I offered individual assistance to students during pre-arranged hours or when they simply dropped by my office. I found this type of contact with students to be particularly rewarding. My starting assumption is that any student can master any subject given sufficiently clear explanations and enough time to absorb the material. My teaching style is simple but effective. With mathematics and physics, the student retains an idea, with the added benefit of a solid intuition if he or she is fortunate enough to work through a problem using his or her's own insights. Guiding the student with the systematic offering of penetrating questions seems to be one of the most powerful methods to aid in the understanding of mathematical and physical phenomena. I have been a physics and mathematics tutor for my fellow students at the University of Waterloo, in Waterloo, Ontario. Also, I served as a physics T.A. at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before I transferred to Waterloo.
