I enjoy working one on one with children to improve academic performance. I have a number of books collected to supplement learning. I like using at least 5 different kinds of activities per session to keep interest. I enjoy working with phonics and have used it extensively to build performance. I enjoy using books that interest each child to help them have a great desire for reading.
Experience with phonics(as a teacher of 1st graders, also experience with children who have learning difficulties, referred to by the school. These children ranged from kindergarten to 8th grades. Working with children has always been somewhat natural to me, probably due to the fact I spent so many of my summers teaching, playing, and caring for them. I was a camp counselor for five summers and my primary duty was the classroom. I was in charge of arts and crafts and teaching lessons/themes of the week. The children I worked with were ages three through eight, and two of the children were autistic. Constructive criticism and co-operative learning learning are very important to me. Since each person has his or her own way of learning, I like to be creative with teaching in order to find a style that best suits the student's needs. Along with traditional teaching methods, such as worksheets and practice sheets, I like to also add a variety of activities (roleplaying, games) that keep the lesson interesting as well as encourage the student to think about the topic from a different angle, perhaps making it easier for them to understand the topic.
