Education has been a priority for me my whole life. I first began tutoring college students in Math while still in college and have always been willing to teach or train anyone who needed it in my personal life or in a professional capacity. My formal education consists of a BS in Mathematics with a Concentration in Physics and a Certificate in Drafting Technology. I am a senior in the Education program at Appalachian State University. As an Elementary Education major, I have worked closely with children from many age levels. I have participated in an after-school tutor/mentor program at Appalachian State in 2008. In 2009, I completed two internships while in the Education Program. One working with 2nd grade students and the other with 5th grade students. I have also taken many courses to understand context and teaching strategies in all subject areas. I believe that children must be engaged in the subject matter before successful learning takes place. Finding fun, interesting, and personal ways for the child to connect to the topic will truly allow them a chance to learn and retain information. I love finding different ways for individual learners to understand what they are being taught.

Though I am a student of Biotechnology, helping others in the field of mathematics has been of interest in that its a common “language” worldwide. Prior to completing my General Arts degree, I had aided two individuals in math, an adult and a high school student in college algebra; and recently aided a coworker this past year in the same subject. In addition, I had later acquired 70+ credit hours towards an Electrical Engineering Degree, which further honed my math skills into the range of college level calculus, trigonometry, differentials, and basic statistics.
