A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently a Physics Faculty at Wichita State University. Before that I had been working as a Graduate teaching assistant in the department of Physics, New Mexico State University, where I taught integrated Lab physics courses to both physics and non – physics majors. This position enabled me to provide these students with a “head start” in mastering conceptual skills in general physics courses. My Labs were integrated rather than traditional. I used a variety of techniques such as computer simulations, PowerPoint presentation, group discussions, videos presentations, online tools and a variety of homework schemes to beautifully unveil the various concepts in Physics.

Although I never actually taught a class, I was able to learn how to adapt to the individual needs of a student. Some learn visually, others with games, practice, hands on... and the list continues. I find starting out with the basics and working up to the harder subjects is important. So, with the assignment given I also ask other questions of the student to see if they understand the more basic concepts of the problem as well as answer the question. I find this helps them understand the process more completely and the student ends up giving more complete answers on assignments and exams. At the end of each session I hope the person I am helping better understands the material and can gain a little confidence about the subject.
In undergrad, I was somewhat of a perfectionist looking for a way to help others. I found that being a tutor and a supplemental instructor allowed me to he ... read more

There are several different styles of teaching. I experienced hands on teaching through the lab courses that I taught. These experiences showed me how important hands on learning is to understanding difficult and complicated concepts. By seeing the information you are learning in a different way, you now have one more method of remembering that material. I believe that students learn best when they not only hear the information that they need to know but also know how to use and apply that information. That is why I have very hands on and demonstration oriented style of teaching. I am always patient and understanding and I love teaching.

I love working with children and believe every child can not only learn, but enjoy learning. I like making learning fun. Sometimes asking the right questions can unblock the obstacle, leading to a better awareness of one’s abilities and knowledge. I have helped students find their inner strength and a better self awareness of what it takes for them to succeed.
