FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY TUTOR (K-12) mdonasci@fau.edu

Business student at Florida Atlantic University. I graduated from A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts with honors in the visual arts, specializing in Architecture and Mathematics. I have also tutored for 4 years now while in school by teaching a wide variety of subjects to students from the ages of 5-20.
I use a Reciprocal/Practice based tutoring style. This an effective method because it allows me to interact with the student and help them grow more efficiently while holding an open discussion environment in each lesson. I then reinforce it with practice based assignments which are followed up with reviews in the beginning of the following class. This makes the student not only memorize definitions, but to also understand the reasoning behind different concepts.

My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : I hold a Ph.D. in biology with a research specialty in marine fish.

My concept of learning includes five primary elements: Passion, Delivery, Challenge, Expectation and Aspiration. I believe an educator must be passionate and excited about the subject in order to engage students and foster their desire to participate and learn. The educator must also be capable of delivering subject matter in a compelling and comprehensible manner. My teaching style is hands on and challenges students to engage and master concepts with high expectations that establish good work ethics. The combination of all of these elements will foster the most important aspect of teaching: aspiring students to excel for their own future success.
I am an experienced and enthusiastic biology tutor that has the ability to foster the success of students with my special attention to student needs. I have a Master of Science degree in Biology and have been teaching for years at the u ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I am currently teaching the Marine Biology Field Studies and Lab course (OCB 4043L) at Florida Atlantic University. I take my students into the field on snorkeling trips to teach them field sampling techniques, and then how to analyze samples back at the lab. In the past, I have been a Teaching Assistant for Life Science Lab at FAU; a first mate on a snorkel boat in the FL keys; and a science instructor at the Newfound Harbor Marine Institute in Big Pine Key, FL.
I believe that the learning process in the sciences requires a combination of individual study time, instructor guidance, hands-on experiences, and reflection time. I try to incorporate models and activities/games into my lesson plans as much as possible to help my students make connections with concrete examples that they won't forget.

Marine Biology is one of my top subjects! This is a subject where I am most proficient. I have taken many classes in marine biology and am also majoring in this field.

I have previously tutored fellow students that were in my classes which helped them very much. They seemed to understand the subject material and ended up doing very well on their exams. I have never tutored formally, but I feel very confident in my abilities to help you better understand the subject material!

A Little Bit About Me...

It has been my great pleasure to have taken part in several classroom setting teaching opportunities and numerous tutoring jobs. I taught Chemistry and Calculus to incomming university freshman in the Engineering Freshman Transition Program (eFTP) and proctored and designed the University of Florida's Tissue Engineering Lab class. While in university I tutored every mathematics dicipline from pSAT prep to Differential Equations and Astrodynamics. I also have a great deal of experiance tutoring test taking and college readiness. I try to bring an understanding of real world application to my tutoring. Helping students see math as something they use everyday and will continue to use in the future helps them to appreciate why it is worth study. I also try to stress that mathematics is fluid.
