Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I have been signing since 1994. Enrolled in college to receive an AA in American Sign Language, and will be continuing my education towards a Sign Language Interpreter Certification.

I started signing in 1994 when I met a deaf woman and her friend at my job. A few days later she came back and handed me a "Sign Language for Beginners" book. After many years of Deaf Clubs, Deaf Functions, and friends. Since 2003 I have been helping any deaf/hearing impaired people when they need help with communicating with what they call "Hearing" people. The deaf culture is very different and very interesting. I am now enrolled in college to get my degree in American Sign Language, then to get certified as a Sign Language Interpreter.
I try to keep away from the Sign Language books, It's hard to learn from a cartoon drawing or a picture with arrows showing the direction to move your hands. Sign Language can be a fun language to learn, you never know, the next person you bump into may be deaf. And wouldn't it be nice to be able to communicate with them?

Sign Language is one of my top subjects!

I am a graduate of Tennessee Temple University, with experience tutoring at Tennessee Temple University, as well as University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, in various topics, including biodiversity, mathematics (up to pre-calculus), history, and American Sign Language. I continue to study in my personal time as many topics as possible, with the belief that a good tutor is firstly a good student.
I allow my teaching style to mold itself to each individual student, finding methods of communicating the information that best suit the learning style of my student. I favor a holistic approach to learning, believing that education should be of the whole person. If a student learns how a skill in his tutoring session can be applied in real life, then his or her perception of the subject may fundamentally improve.

A Little Bit About Me...

Hands on teaching and kinesthetic learning are key to success in my mind. I love to involve the student's entire body in the learning process. From their senses to their movements to memory device techniques in the form of song or poem, using alternative methods of teaching seems more effective in the learning process.
As a Cum Laude graduate from the University of Florida, I continue to hold a high level of discipline in every aspect of life. Whether it be at work, at home, or at school, I feel it is imperative to do your best no matter what the situation. It was not until I helped students with severe mental and physical disabilities that I felt fulfilled in my profession. Being able to teach student who are eager to learn, but have obs ... read more

I feel confident in developing a lesson plan that can be diverse enough to meet each and every child’s gifts and disadvantages. Enriching the lives of today’s youth is something very dear to my heart. With the hustle and bustle of our fast-paced world, it gets hard for them to find out who they are, and focus on what they need to be doing. I feel they push their education to the side, because they are forced to become adults too soon. I also feel that focus will not be regained until they find an instructor or tutor who they feel cares about THEM. I don’t judge any student for any reason. I believe all children learn differently, and some need a more unconventional approach to understand what they are studying. My biggest goal is helping these kids and making an impact on their life. I want them to remember me as the “tutor who cares”.
As a teenager, I learned the importance of having role models, both in and out of the classroom. Some of my biggest influences are old teachers and coaches. After I grad ... read more

I began teaching in 1998. My previous job was taken away by forces of nature. I had taken advantage of the Military Troops to Teachers Program with no clear pathway to practice. Until I found myself with a possibility of unemployment. I I applied at a correctional facility and I was hired over the next week. Hence my introduction to the classroom and the world of academia. Over the next five years I was fortunate enough to teach both classroom and computer lab, loving the challenges and accomplishments more and more everyday. My students were adult learners whom appreciated accomplishing life goals. I continued educating over the next seven years with results that were uplifting and inspirational. Teaching requires a heart.
