Working as a High School English teacher for seven years, in Alternative Education, has greatly honed my skills in assisting students to excel. A Little Bit About Me...

When working with children, I try my best to be engaging, interactive, and fun. If necessary, I'll use props (e.g. building blocks) to help illustrate concepts, and I always try to ask many questions along the way to make sure my explanations are clear. With older students I will use a slightly more textbook approach, but keeping lessons interactive still remains essential, and props may still be useful in some circumstances. In both situations, I try to find which learning styles work best for the student and present lessons based on those. Each person has a unique way of learning, and if a teacher takes the time to understand it, then the student's true potential can be reached.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always been passionate about receiving and giving the best education. As a graduate of a top-level liberal arts college I was able to hone my skills in English writing and composition. I received a certificate in Elementary Education both in New York and California, and have taught in elementary schools for three years in grades 3, and a 1st/2nd grade combo class, respectively. I also have 2 years of experience substituting in elementary and middle schools, and 1 year of experience tutoring in English, as well as math. My most recent experiences have been teaching ESL students as an instructional assistant, as well as working one-on-one with autistic and special needs children in a special day class for 1 and a half years.

In addition to writing countless essays during my time as an English literature student, I worked as a residence hall tutor for my last two years of university, helping other students revise and edit their academic papers for grammar, structure, flow and ideas. I've always been drawn to the creativity and knowledge needed to use writing in very powerful and effective ways. I earned my bachelor's degree, taking classes that focused on writing for both stage and screen as well as a multitude of writing and reading comprehension classes in a wide range of subjects both academic and creative: theatre, english, literature, poly-sci, astronomy, anthropology, journalism, etc. While my education might suggest I'm only a playwright or poet, my extensive training has been extremely academic as well.
