A Little Bit About Me...

At the present time I am working at the University of Michigan as a Research Lab Specialist Lead. Beside research this position enables me to interact with students and teach them the biologic basic skills. I am challenged to be creative, nurturing and most of all, patient. During my Ph.D. program I had the opportunity to teach at the European classes (ERASMUS)for college students. This position allowed me to teach to students from all over the world. I also had the chance to take care of children in high school as a mentor. It is my goal to combine my range of experience with my ability to be a compassionate, enthusiastic, intelligent teacher who will make a positive contribution to the education field.

During college I spent a lot of time volunteering with youth. With a BA in psychology, I have learned to be very calm and patient when working with students. I spent 15 years overseas teaching English Conversation. However, I truly enjoy math. During my years of babysitting I assisted children with different homework. I also spent the summer of 2005 working with the Derek Coleman Hoops Festival in which I had to tutor in both math and reading.
I love love love teaching. While teaching I try to be energetic and fun. I try to learn and understand the children's learning style in order to teach them most effectively. I am most satisfied in my teaching when my children truly understand what has been taught. Whether using candy or sports, I think everyone can learn what they need to know by relating it to something they already love.

I believe that all children all capable of learning and that each one learns in their own way. The basis behind successful teaching is to find what motivates them and relate that to the subject. Thomas Edison said, "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. I am extremely persistant. Whatever it takes to get someone to understand a concept I will strive to discover it. Most of all the process of learning should be kept exciting so that the pupil is left yearning for the next lesson.
I went to public schools in East Detroit, Michigan. In eighth grade I set a personal goal to attend the University of Michigan. I never had private tutors. My strongest subject is math. Mr Learmont, my junior high school history teacher would frequently say, "Take care of these books and these books will take care of you." It was that inspiration that raised me to love learning and in turn teaching others.
