A skilled educator experienced in working with diverse population groups, I'm a Reading Specialist and a classroom educator. Designing curriculum and consulting with homeschooling families have been integral parts of my growth as an educator. Seeking to improve my instructional techniques, I obtained a Master's Degree in Reading and Literacy in 2005. Although the majority of my students struggle in academic areas, they ultimately regularly score above the national norms on Standardized Assessments, including Iowa Test of Basic Skills and California Achievement Test.

As an ESL, grades 9-12 teacher, I am very familiar with identifying students' individual strengths and areas in need of support. Every one of my students learns differently. I must design curriculum that can be easily differentiated. This makes me an excellent tutor, because this is what it takes to tutor. As a college student, I tutored many other graduate students that were attaining their degrees in this country and needed to hone their English language skills before returning to their home nations.
I enjoy getting to know my students' strengths and areas in need of support, so that I may better facilitate learning in those areas. I graduated from the University of Iowa in 1989. My degree is in Elementary Education with an emphasis in reading. I taught in the same school district for 20 years where I gained experience teaching first, second, third and sixth grade. I am currently employed as the Elementary Student Advisor with the school district that my previous school district recently merged with. My daily duties include teaching guidance classes, advising individual students, working with At-Risk students on homework, and being a liason for parents and teachers. I love my job!
