Students learn best when they are engaged in an environment where they feel confident to express their individual personalities. Creating a community of learners in a classroom from the very first day of school is a key element to a positive learning environment. A mutual respect between the teacher and the students needs to be established and maintained throughout the school year. Learning requires an environment where students feel comfortable taking risks, sharing opinions, expressing areas of confusion, providing assistance to others, and communicating in a positive manner. I greatly enjoy seeing the students achieve their learning goals and their yearly progress In 2000, I began to teach special education and teaching special needs children with learning disabilities. I taught grades 3rd-5th in a self-contained, reading, math, and language skills and middle school grades 6th- 8th. After Hurricane Katrina, I moved to Pensacola, Fl. I taught regular ed. 3rd grade, all subjects,special ed., 3rd-5th and SRA reading classes, high school grades 9-12, career ed., health, and reading to behaviorally challenged students. I also taught evening called ged/abe ages 16-adult. I usually work especially well with children who have learning disabilities or emotional and behavioral problems.
