A Little Bit About Me...

Admittedly, I have no direct (structured) teaching experience. However, I have nearly five years of experience in the journalism field, and during that time I've mentored a number of fledgling college and high school journalists. And while journalism and political science are my two specialties -- given that I have degrees in both -- I also have a fair amount of expertise in the tangential fields of English and History.
I do not have a particular teaching style because I don't believe that a single method works for everyone. Therefore, I operate from an Occam's Razor perspective -- whatever is the simplest solution is the best. I completed all course work for a masters of physics at University of Alabama at Birmingham, only lacking the thesis. G.P.A. at the end of the course work was 3.65. Along the way, as I finished the graduate course work (and in order to pay the rent) I did ad-hoc tutoring with a number of undergrad students along with a more formal semester of 'coaching' a class of undergrads in their regular physics class. This entailed going over problems with them, showing them how to correctly formulate solutions. I use a couple of different techniques to help students understand math, including using visual aides, problem solving techniques, role reversal (where they explain a lesson to me), blackboard/whiteboard work, and games.
