A Little Bit About Me...

I am a senior, math major at Marist College. I have a strong background in calculus and algebra. Scored a 700 on my math SAT section. Math is something that I am extremely passionate about and believe that STEM majors are the best ones to get you far in the world. I also have a strong background in cognitive thinking and leadership.
I enjoy working with students who want to learn and grow. I am very relaxed and don't just read from the book and give examples. I like to help the student with examples first and then put them to the test.

To understand science all you have to do is look around you and ask questions. Science is a hands on subject, when you can touch something, feel it, watch it shine it will stick in your memory. My style is open and changes with the needs of the student. My goal is for the student to learn the material, as well as take an interest in the subject matter. When a student finds something interesting it is amazing how much material they can absorb. I try to entertain as much as I teach using videos, pictures, songs, and getting out to see it in the real world.
As a recent college graduate, subjects such as chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, and geology are still fresh in my mind. I earned a BS in chemistry from Suny Oneonta where I was put into a diverse program. Over the last year I have received my NY Certification in coaching and have been accepted to Suny Cortland for Adolesce ... read more

In Physics especially tutoring, the approach that gives me best result so far is to directly engage the student in solving Physics problems. It is one thing to present the subject matter but it is a whole different thing to solve problems. Most students don't really understand the significance of the theory or law until they apply in solving physics problems especially those with relevance to real life situations. Since most of the theory were taught in school already, I kind of directly immerse the student to problem solving because that is where you will know whether the student understand the subject matter or not. It is a kind of hands-on approach.
I have tutored high school students before for about two years on high school Physics. I was a university Physics teacher for three years teaching non-Physics major and Physics major students on astronomy, mechanics, electrodynam ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always had a great love of math and I have always enjoyed the opportunity to be a part of the moment when a student began to further understand and apreciate the subject as I did. I have earned a bachelor degree in Computer Science with a minor in mathematics awarded by Rutgers University and New Jersey Institute of Technology. I worked as a tutor for the Rutgers University Learning resource center and I also worked as a private tutor for several years. I have tutored subjects from algebra to calculus always helping dedicated individuals to achieve an increase of at least one letter grade.
I will discuss with the student what he/she understands about the subject and I will begin my lesson from the point that they understand. I will use illustrations that would apply to the student's life so that they will be able to better realte to and understand the topic at hand. I will ... read more

I thoroughly enjoy accounting and would be honored to work with children and young adults in teaching them the skills I have gained throughout the years. I believe in teaching hands on and focusing on children's strengths rather than their weaknesses. I also have the patience and the desire to work with children and teach them the fundamentals of accounting. Their future can be promising if they master the basics. Once the basics are established, there are unlimited opportunities.
I have a double degree in Accounting and Finance and have had the opportunity to put these degrees to use in the workplace. Whether it's financial statement analysis or remediation, I have the hands on experience in accounting and finance that enables me to relate classroom concepts to real world problems. Being able to teach real world applications helps the student understand the reasons behind the ru ... read more

Most of my career has been spent at IBM, where I built on my Physics background for a broad range of opportunities. I am now seeking to move into a teaching career and plan to start a Masters in Teaching in the Fall of 2009. During my educational development, I taught for three years in undergraduate and graduate school as part of the duties of a teaching Assistant. I have tutored secondary school students for the last 5 years in Math, Physics, and Chemistry.
I enjoy helping students understand the principles they are dealing with, rather than focusing on helping them simply "get the answer" to the problem at hand. My goal is for them to be able to generalize the concept and apply it in different contexts. To develop interest, I seek to discuss related information or similar problems as much as possible. For Physics in particular, this approach is key to providing a sound fou ... read more

I enjoy helping people acquire knowledge. I have experienced the full spectrum of both poor and excellent instructors myself, so I am aware of what needs to be done in order to facilitate learning. I assess the abilities of each person I work with and develop an approach accordingly. I think that a combination of patience and humor can provide for an outstanding learning environment, and I employ this approach when teaching.
Both my Education and work experiences have thoroughly enhanced both my knowledge, as well as my communications skills. Having a degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry, I have attained knowledge in various fields of science. I have been gifted with a natural ability to communicate, and my experiences in both work and study have enhanced both my verbal and my written communication skill. Both in college as well in camps, I have had the privilege of tutoring ... read more

I am a recent graduate from the College of Saint Rose in Albany. I graduated with a Bachelors in Adolescent Education: Mathematics. I started tutoring my peers during my senior year of high school in 2005. At college I worked in the student learning center as a mathematics tutor.
I loved learning mathematics throughout my college experience and during my student teaching in both high school geometry and college algebra courses I realized that my passion is my strength. I am able to use my knowledge of math beyond where my students are in order to attack the students understanding of the subject from different angles. This not only allows the student and myself to figure out how the student learns but it puts the student in good position to build on his/her mathematics knowledge.

I loved my time in the classroom helping children to love learning both math and science. I believe that all children can love those subjects although many find them difficult. It takes a patient person who loves to teach and learn themselves to teach the difficult processes of Math and science and that person is me.
After studying medicine for 3 years in college I decided that I wanted to be a teacher. I was lucky enough to land a job where I taught both science and Math.I was a teacher for 3 years. I taught Algebra, Precalculus, Chemistry and Biology at the high school level.
