I received my certification to be a Secondary English Teacher in Jan of 2012 and have kept it up to date since. I change my teaching style depending on the client. With ESL students, I will often point out every mistake to them so that they can get used to seeing what the correct way looks like. With other students, I point out a few mistakes, and then expect them to find the others on their own. With math, I will give out a sample problem, work out how it is done, then expect the student to do a new math problem on his or her own. After doing a study abroad in Japan for a year I was enticed to go back and teach English there. Adjusting to the culture both professionally and personally has been an invaluable experience, and I have discovered the great impact I can make as a teacher coming from another country. In addition to carrying out lessons, I have taken on the role of increasing the awareness of diversity among our Japanese student body, faculty, as well as community.
