Although I have not formally been in the classroom since 1998, I regularly tutor my own children. While in college at MTSU, I was a substitute teacher in Rutherford County for 3 years, mainly substituting at Central Middle School. I also did various volunteer tutoring in the Elementary schools as class credit toward my degree. Due to having my oldest child my senior year of college, I was forced into the general workforce due to finances, and do not have any formal teaching experience outside of substituting. It is extremely rewarding to watch a child when that " i get moment" happens and their face lights up with pride, happiness and a sense of accomplishment.
Try to customize to students intrest in order to keeep attention and make as entertaining as possible. Every child sees things from different eyes. I just teach them how to look. 1998 was the my first tutoring experience, I took time from busy school schedule to tutor students in Math and Science at a low income school near my college. After spending time tutoring students in a variety of subjects I decided to go for an education degree once I finished my undergraduate degree. While working towards my Masters degree I spent a semester working in the Seattle Public school as a substitute teachers aid.
