My comments on tutoring Biology : I have taught all levels of biology including PreAP and AP.

My teaching experience includes over twenty years in Texas public schools. I have taught science to grades six through twelve that include AP Biology, PreAP Biology, Biology, AP Chemistry, PreAP Chemistry, Chemistry, GMO, and Environmental Science. My mathematics experience includes seven years of teaching seventh and eighth grade mathematics, as well as Algebra I. I have also had success STAAR and Algebra I EOC exams.

My preferred method of teaching is hands-on, through real experiments. Unfortunately, experiments cannot always be done, so I use lots of illustrations and age-appropriate analogies that are easy to relate to. Many times students are convinced that science is a subject too difficult to conquer, that they must just survive it, but science is all around us. I strive for that "a-ha" moment when a student realizes that all biological and physiological processes are interrelated and that the trick to understanding science is to build on previously learned concepts. I believe that teaching solid fundamentals and relating more difficult topics to already learned information is key to helping students thoroughly understand the subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

I taught all subjects for adult learners preparing for the GED tests through Region IX Education Services Center's Adult Education program for 4 years in the evenings. I also taught English as a Second Language to adults. I am an Adult reading tutor for adults who could not read. I taught mathematics, vocabulary and biology to high school graduates preparing to take the nursing entrance exam at Vernon College. I also taught basic computer classes in Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite for Vernon College's Wichita Falls campus for 4 years. I had one or two evening classes each semester. I worked full time during the day as a Veterans' Employment Representative for Texas Workforce Commission.
