Statement of Teaching Philosophy As a student, I have observed that the best teachers were those who cared the most about teaching. This passion is one of the single most important components of effective teaching as it leads to thorough preparation, continuous evolution of teaching skills, and the pleasure of watching students learn. The amount of time that a teacher puts into preparation directly translates to how the students learn. A Little Bit About Me...

I have a variety of teaching techniques that I use on a daily basis in my classroom. Although, I am not certified in elementary I work well with the younger kids as well. I am easy going and enthusiastic.
I am a tenured teacher at a local public high school. I have a BA in Education, MA in Gifted Education, and an MA in Educational Administration. I currently jold a Career Teaching Certificate for Mathematics grades 5-12. I taught 6th grade mathematics for 4 years, and the past two I have been teaching Algebra I courses.

Some students remember best what they see, some what they hear, but nearly all will best recall material that they see hear say and do something with. My teaching style is one that tries to incorporate seeing, hearing, saying, and doing and getting students to use higher order thinking skills as much as I can. More than just rote memory and recall, I want then to be able to apply acquired knowledge to solve problems or create new ideas based on their previous learning.
I have worked in both the public and private school settings and have 20 years teaching experience. A Little Bit About Me...

I really enjoy tutoring. I love watching the students gain confidence as we work through the problems. I believe my attitude and approach to teaching helps the students. I provide enough understanding to the students but still challenge them. The worst thing you can do, is just give the answers. I believe everyone wants to learn and do their best, but it is hard when you do not understand what you are trying to do. I enjoy providing that one on one attention to open their minds and show them they can do it.
