I try to adapt my teaching style to the student. I keep trying different methods until we find what works best. This is probably why many of my students have told me that I am great at explaining things so they understand it. Being proficient at math is similar to being proficient at playing a musical instrument. You can’t learn to play an instrument by going to concerts and watching other people perform. Similarly, you can’t learn math by watching the teacher solve problems. I try to guide students to the correct solution and give immediate feedback while they work.

teaching is something that, to me, is unique when dealing with science education. When dealing with science there are many different ways of looking at the same problem. It is important for the student to keep his or her view of the problem and to work off of that view, rather than to change the view to the teachers. This makes it much more interesting for the teacher to adapt to the different ways of learning for each student and to build their education off of how they view science.

Having received both my undergraduate and graduate degrees from Cornell University and the University of California in the area of physical science (Atmospheric Science), I have attained a high level of knowledge in multiple areas ranging from Math and Science (particularly Physics) as well as Chemistry and Biology. Tutoring should be a tool used to complement traditional education. When tutoring there is little help in providing information to the student the same way that the teacher presents it. Tutors may also fall into the trap of simply giving the student the answers. For these reasons I prefer an holistic approach to tutoring. Every student is different and they all have different ways of understanding the material.
