I am a very interactive teacher. I want feedback so I can see the progress the student is making. If they are not getting something, I make adjustments and change tactics. I teach tot he student(s). Everyone learns differently. And sometimes by the time I get to them student, it has nothing to do with their ability but more their confidence because of previously bad experiences. Reading is one of my top subjects! I LOVE to read and would love to teach you all I know. I am not a speed reader, a teacher or have any training other than my personal schooling. I think I did an excellent job teaching my children to read and reading comprehension. They had a very high Vocabulary when they started school from all the reading we did.

Typing: 4 yrs. High School typing classes and years of typing on the home computer. I did take a couple R.O.P. classes on computer programs but have forgotten most of what I was taught since I didn't use it. I learn very quickly and can figure things out pretty well if I don't know how it works. I type 58 words per minute without looking at the keyboard. Learning can be fun!!

When tutoring, I strive to make lessons engaging, effective and enjoyable. Specifically, I tailor lessons according to an individual student's needs and involve students in a dialogue by asking questions that provoke thought, conversation, and perhaps humor. A Little Bit About Me...

I am what you might call a camp kid. I grew up spending summers in the mountains, camping and hiking and when I grew older, working. The foundation of my leadership experience was built in the forrest. For six summers I worked as an outdoor educator and adventure guide, leading groups of students through week long trips into the natural world. I believe in experience as the greatest teacher. Students are empowered when they learn from their experience and begin to flourish in themselves. At university, my enthusiasm for the outdoors lead me to the arts. I took a particular interest in poetry and short stories and immersed myself in literary life at UCSD. I was often asked to facilitate writing workshops and discussion groups, and in doing so I've found tutoring to come quite naturally to me.
