Learning can be fun!!

I love learning and teaching alike. My first teaching experience was in high school when I helped teach inner city children how to swim. Following high school, I earned a bachelor's degree in genetics at UC Berkeley, during which time I worked as a teacher's assistant for a genetics professor. While in medical school in Hungary, I tutored Hungarians in English, and medical students in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and biophysics. I completed internship and residency in Internal Medicine in the United States. As a senior resident I was responsible for teaching and supervising junior residents and interns. Although I currently work as a freelance science writer, my love of teaching has led me to continue tutoring (mainly math to middle and high school students) over the years.
When tutoring, I strive to make lessons engaging, effective and enjoyable. Specifically, I tailor ... read more

My comments on tutoring Genetics : I took this course during my undergraduate studies at UCSD, receiving an A in the course.

I worked as an Undergraduate Instructional Apprentice (UGIA)/Tutor at UCSD for the courses of Nutrition and AIDS, Science, and Society. In my role as a UGIA/Tutor, I was responsible for leading a weekly (sometimes biweekly) discussion section with a group of students in which I reviewed course material that was taught by the professor in their respective courses as well as providing worksheets and writing quizzes to help the students learn the material covered in lecture. In addition to these discussion sections, I also held weekly office hours to assist students in regards to answering any questions they may have had about course material as well as run review sessions along with other UGIAs/Tutors to help prepare students prior to their exams.
First, I begin by answering any questions a student has about the material they are learning. Once all questions are answered, I usually l ... read more

Teaching is a great way to educate and to learn. As a tutor, first, I see the student’s understanding level. I plan ahead of time and prepare proper material. However, if the material is provided, I find effective methods of teaching, and teach each student accordingly. It’s obvious that some techniques work better for some students but not others. Therefor, I choose a good teaching method, and assist students to learn the material better, faster and easier.
As a recent graduate of San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minor in Psychology, I have taken many classes in biology, physics, algebra, psychology, chemistry as well as organic chemistry. I learned how to plan, provide and educated students by teaching and tutoring sciences and English classes for four years. Throughout my working experiences, I learned how to manage and organize an efficient ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a United States Peace Corps Volunteer, I worked with local youth in a Fijian village over the course of two years. I created a study groups based on education level and subject matter for the young adults living in the community. I focused lessons on English reading and comprehension, effective writing skills, algebra, calculus, and basic science. Working with youth from another culture and in a foriegn language forced me to gain strong interpersonal skills, innovative ways to tutor students, and the patience to work with students to achieve their academic goals.
I worked with students from the age of eight to eighteen. Each age group provided its own set of challenges and opportunities to strengthen my experience as a tutor. I worked with children in small groups or one-on-one, based on the child's learning style. I encouraged the children to set their academic goals high ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a high school student, I taught music and math to middle school kids for approximately two years. The music they learned was performed in a competitive circuit in which they placed. As an undergraduate, I served as a study proctor in my sorority from 2007-2009 tutoring in the subjects of math, science, and writing.
I believe tutoring is not only to raise children's grades, but also to make sure they understand the material so it can be applied to other principles in their future education. I believe not every student can be tutored the same way, and I have confidence that I can mold material in a way that each student can understand.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a recent graduate from UCSD that majored in Human Biology and Psychology. I have 5 cumulative years of tutoring in a variety of subjects. I consider math my forte (from Algebra to Precalculus and Calculus), but I am more than proficient in other areas of science including biology, chemistry and physics. I have been tutoring since high school and but my earliest tutoring experiences began at home where I tutored my 4 siblings. I am easy going and will try my best to meet at your convenience and accommodate any needs. I am eager to help students achieve their maximum potential in math and science. It brings me much joy to see the look on a students face as they grasp a concept that they once looked upon with much adversity.
I prepare for tutoring sessions by asking any prospective students to please send me their study material prior to our sessions (at least a day please!). ... read more

I finished my lower division coursework at a california community college (AHC) and earned a total of six associate degrees. While at the community college, I administered practice test for students in MESA in mathematics (Calculus 1,2,3, and 4) while also working the maximum of 20 hours a week in the campus math lab (walk-in tutoring). Furthermore, I attended and graduated from UCLA with a bachelor's degree in physics and a minor in mathematics and finished the necessary coursework to apply to all medical school programs in to the country. I tutored for side money while attending UCLA. Currently, I'm a graduate student at SDSU. I'm two courses and a Master's thesis away from receiving my Master's degree in Physics.

As engineering student I was always dedicated to my studies, and I truly enjoy learning. During my high school and college years I was a swimming coach at the local swim club and that is were I realized my love for teaching. After moving to the U.S. I worked as a substitute teacher for the desert sands unified school district for almost 8 months before entering my CLS training program. I am currently working with the School of medical technology program to enhance the curriculum and better the educational experience.
I am a person that is driven by the joy you get when a student finally understand something they didn't think they could. I am a teacher that will change my approach depending on the student and I will not stop until I am sure that they "get it". My strengths are physics, chemistry and math and i love making these subjects fun for all ages.

I very much enjoy teaching. All children can learn provided they are given the proper guidence. Patience, tolerance, and acceptance on the teachers/tutors part is the key to success. The student must simply be willing to learn, excel, and succeed. All children can meet their potential given a good learning environment, encouragement, and established trust that the teacher/tutor is willing to give freely. When I strive (and I will) the student strives. With this: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

I have tutored HS 9-12 and undrgraduate students individually in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and for SAT/ACT testing since the late 1990's. I received teaching credentials for teaching 9-12 Mathematics in California in 2005. I have worked as a Math/Sciences substitute in the Grossmont Union High School District since that time. I have also worked with A+ Professional Tutoring -- in San Diego County -- and Tutor.com -- online -- for many years, in every level of the Sciences and Mathematics.
I love Mathematics and I often wear my heart on sleeve; when it comes to Math, I try to infect the student with that bug. I believe that most students have issues with their immediate teaching and, as a result, feel that math has no meaning to them, hence I teach Mathematics in a contextual manner, showing deep meaning for the drills imposed in the classroom curriculums most experie ... read more

I have one year of experience teaching at the junior college level at Victor Valley College. I created and gave lectures on various chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry topics as well as conducted lab sections for students. I wrote tests, quizzes, homework assignments, and some study guides as well. I addressed students needs and concerns via email or one on one time after class. I have a BS in Chemistry from Pacific Union College and an MS in Biochemistry from Loma Linda University. I believe that not only my scholastic background, but also my teaching experience make me a very capable tutor.

As a student, I loved school so much so that I went on to get a graduate degree in science. Science and writing have been huge parts of my professional career (non-tutoring) and I have worked with government research entities, an environmental consulting company and now with a non-profit that focuses on public education and outreach. My specialties are two-fold: 1) I have an extensive science background and the ability to share this in an effective way with kids; biology was my favorite course in college and I love to revisit it; 2) I have personal and professional experience working with kids of all ages that are having difficulty getting what they need out of the classroom.
My approach to tutoring is that all students want to learn, even if they act otherwise. It is my job to make the subject more relevant, interesting and understandable for them. I assume everyone is cap ... read more

During high school I acquired my first teaching position. I figure skated as a hobby and had been working at my local ice rink for three years. A position opened up for an assistant coach. I helped teach skating classes for toddlers up to the elderly. It was a very rewarding experience. I taught classes for that ice rink for two years until I left for college. In college I helped tutor my lab partners and classmates. Still I did not expect that I would enjoy teaching as much as I do. When I came to San Diego as a graduate student, I wanted to take a position as a Teaching Assistant for financial reasons, but when I started the position, I found it to be the most rewarding job I have ever had. I have been a teaching assistant ever since, teaching all three quarters of my graduate career.
I strive to have open lines of communication between my students and myself. I think i ... read more
