I have a passion for education. I am a lifelong learner that loves getting my student excited about learning. This is often easier said than done. In the past I have worked as both a teachers aide/paraprofessional and substitute teacher for a total of 4 years. While working as a teachers aide I worked with individual and groups of elementary level students on course work throughout the day. This included things like: helping students with math homework, listening to students read and helping them with reading comprehension, helping students prepare for tests by quizzing them. I currently work as a pre-k teacher. My work day consists of teaching my students their numbers, letters, letter sounds, and basic counting. I am certified to teach Kindergarten through 6th grade in the state of Kansas. My specialties are reading, spelling, phonics, and Kindergarten through 3rd grade math. There are several different styles of teaching. I experienced hands on teaching through the lab courses that I taught. These experiences showed me how important hands on learning is to understanding difficult and complicated concepts. By seeing the information you are learning in a different way, you now have one more method of remembering that material. I believe that students learn best when they not only hear the information that they need to know but also know how to use and apply that information.
