I have a BS in business administration with a major in marketing and minor in English. I have been substitute teaching at various times in public schools since 1995. I have taught beginning computer classes to adults and have taught third through fifth grade boys at church. I hold a current substitute teachers license from the state of Alabama. My strongest subjects are history, grammar, reading, literature, drama, and social studies.
I try to put myself in the student's shoes and find which method of teaching can reach the student best. I try to identify the student's strengths and weaknesses and work out a program to help him or her achieve his or her goals. I have tutored students in math and science (mainly math) for over 13 years. I have helped students in various levels of mathematics - basic math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus. After working with me on a consistent basis (2/3 days/week) many of the students have received honors in their math courses, including "Most Improved" and "Highest Average". I am also proud to say that a couple of students have actually decided to pursue careers that require a good understanding of math - i.e. engineering, architecture.

A good teacher will ask a question and will not answer until a group discussion occurs. A good teacher ensures the group feels comfortable to think outside the box withou fear of embarrassment. Use of several medias in addition to course material is key to keep the attention of the group.
