I currently teach at a Christian School and I am an intervention specialist. I have been teaching since 2003. I started my career as a tutor, then I taught first grade for three years, I went back to tutoring until I finished my master's degree in special education. This is when I was hired to teach students with Autism and other learning disabilities. I truly love what I do and I enjoy my students as well.

I consider myself to be a "beginner" teacher as I have recently graduated college and received my license. I have spent roughly 500 hours in the field as a result of college course requirements, and I have successfully completed a 12 week internship (student teaching) experience. I have had the opportunity to work in many different subject areas and classroom settings with students of various backgrounds, ages, and learning styles. I try to take a hands-on approach to teaching when possible. I find it helpful to use varied and often unusual objects and materials when teaching a lesson; it tends to make the material more memorable. However I am not above using the standard pencil/paper/textbook approach when needed.

I have been in Education for 19 years, but have been a teacher much longer than that! I have been involved in teaching somehow since I was a young girl, working as a Sunday School teacher or as a teacher for Vacation Bible School, as a camp counselor for the YMCA Daycare program and as a tutor while in college. I have been a certified teacher for 19 years, spending most of those years in Special Education. I started my career as a substitute teacher in Northeast Ohio, moved to Texas to teach Special Education as a resource teacher, moved to teaching third grade and then back to Special Education as an Intervention Specialist working with small groups of students in all grade levels. To be honest I do not have any professional experience tutoring. However, throughout my entire educational career I have always been able to grasp material before my classmates and hence help them grasp the material themselves.
