Experience Summary

I have been in Education for 19 years, but have been a teacher much longer than that! I have been involved in teaching somehow since I was a young girl, working as a Sunday School teacher or as a teacher for Vacation Bible School, as a camp counselor for the YMCA Daycare program and as a tutor while in college. I have been a certified teacher for 19 years, spending most of those years in Special Education. I started my career as a substitute teacher in Northeast Ohio, moved to Texas to teach Special Education as a resource teacher, moved to teaching third grade and then back to Special Education as an Intervention Specialist working with small groups of students in all grade levels. In 2007, I became a certified Dyslexia Specialist and immediately felt I had found my niche in Education. I love working with small groups of students, really focusing on their individual needs as learners. The program that I was trained in as a Dyslexia Specialist uses a multisensory approach to teaching students to read. My students made tremendous progress, moving from being non readers to reading just slightly below grade level. In 2012 I returned to Ohio to continue my career in Education. I enjoy working with students who are dyslexic and specialize in tutoring students with that particular learning difference.

Dyslexia

I have been a special education teacher for most of my teaching career specializing in dyslexia. I am a trained, certified dyslexia specialist and have been working with students with dyslexia for 8 years. I feel that the program that I use is very beneficial because it is a multisensory approach to teaching students to read. I also teach study skills so that my students become successful in school.
