My comments on tutoring Pre-Algebra : I have taught students at Remington College and National College. I have tutored middle and high school students. I wrote an interactive math education program to teach Pre-Algebra subjects. I have worked with several non-profit organizations in Cleveland to teach Pre-Algebra subjects.

Punctual - prepared and professional. I look at learning rep. styles of students (pictorial, word or kinesthehic). I try to make the learning experience as painless as possible (especially math). I start with pre-tests to gauge where a student is at, then follow-up with teaching content and finish with a post-test to gauge learing objectives that have been met. Depending on the subject, I like to schedule 2-2.5 hrs ateach session. I also like to work out problems for students and e-mail them the results, where applicable.

Chess coach/tutor available (most subjects) - Cleveland West

I learned how to play chess about twenty years ago, it's been rather on and off since then. I've steadily improved and tried so many different ways to improve before finding the right method for myself that I'm confident in my many approaches to teaching. As far as other subjects, I graduated high school with honors back in 2003 with a 3.8 GPA, and scored a composite 30 on the ACT. I was awarded the Presidential Scholarship from Baldwin-Wallace, went there for a year, didn't like the school at all (should have researched it more...) I try to find a common, basic level of understanding with the student and then show how a few key insights can help the student broaden her/his knowledge. In math, for example, this typically means showing how elementary concepts can be applied to simplify more complex problems, such as showing how such things as the distributive and associative properties are being used in solving equations, sometimes in a context where these things are often glossed over.
I have taught computer science courses in business college, and I taught algebra, calculus, and statistics as a graduate student. I remain convinced of the necessity of obtaining basic math skills for success in today's world, and I spend a lot of time maintaining my own skills in math and computers.
