I have over 25 yrs experience with the Spanish language. Having attended a language school before entering Latin America for indigenous relief work, I attained the knowledge of one of the most beautiful languages, Spanish. Then, while living within the culture the language became part of my being. I have taught children of all ages throughout the years. I love the language and sharing it with others.
I have a relaxed teaching style, it has to be fun! Practical, conversational drills are the best avenue to teach a language. If you are in a course, or your child is having difficulty at school with a spanish class, I will gladly instruct from the materials provided to you.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe the first thing you need to do is to find out what the student needs help with. At times I have used music, poetry, or computer programs to get the students attention. Repetition is very helpful and note cards are good for memorization. Taking notes is a good way for the student to stay focused. A little comedy helps too to help students to remember. I enjoy helping students, adult or younger, feel the success of learning. Sometimes it is a struggle, but it is always fulfilling to see the relief and happiness they feel when they do succeed.
My original degree was in English with a minor in Spanish. I received my teaching certification in 1979 in Secondary English/Spanish. I taught adult ESL part time for 2 years in the evenings. My wife and I home-schooled our three children from 1993 until 2004. In addition, I was active in Scouts from 1994 until 2007 as Assistant Scoutmaster, Scoutmaster and Merit Badge Counselor. These positions are supervisory in nature and involve both formal and informal teaching, mentoring and guiding. This experience also entailed several summer camps. My strengths are in the natural sciences, which formed the bulk of my work at UT, and English composition and grammar, as I gained extensive experience proofreading and writing essays for publication.
