I have enjoyed the opportunity to teach students to excel at several different levels during my career as a research scientist. As a graduate student, I tutored and mentored students in the local middle school science research class. Upon completing my Ph.D. I designed and taught college courses, and have more recently taught a year of science at the high school level. I feel students learn best when they are engaged and interested in the topic. I think relating a topic in a practical and applied approach helps many students retain and apply the information they have learned. Some students work best with "Hands-on" activities (especially for kinesthetic learners), and some students are visual or auditory learners.
