My comments on tutoring Genetics : I took this course during my undergraduate studies at UCSD, receiving an A in the course.

First, I begin by answering any questions a student has about the material they are learning. Once all questions are answered, I usually like to engage students in active learning by providing a worksheet for them in order to test where a students strengths/weaknesses are in regards to particular subject. Lastly, I usually finish off with review of important concepts about the material (especially concepts that students have the most difficulty with) in hopes to clarify the concepts/ideas of the subject.
I worked as an Undergraduate Instructional Apprentice (UGIA)/Tutor at UCSD for the courses of Nutrition and AIDS, Science, and Society. In my role as a UGIA/Tutor, I was responsible for leading a weekly (sometimes biweekly) discussion section with a group of students in which I reviewed course material that was taught by the professor in their respective courses as well as providin ... read more

If you don't like the results, I haven't done my job.

All I do is tend to my students needs. I'm personal. Like to get off track with my students and lead them back to the point.
I won the state championship in the 100 meters and went to Adams State College in Alamosa CO. Broke a leg in track and received withdrawn F across the board. Left college and healed up. Went to the Army two years and reserve three years. Came back and picked up the quickest degree possiable. Moved to Hawwaii, three years. Became a ciritified dept of defense government contractor. Furnish and deliver contracts. Ended up moving back home to Albuquerque NM. I started working in the Indian Casinos for 13 years. I bought a house and retired. But now I'm tired of sitting around.

My strong suite is probably science and history. I can help almost anyone improve their test grades ( as long as they are trying ) I'm not the tutor for someone struggling in Math past elementary levels though because I don't think I'd be able to help anyone entering algebra. ( I find it too complicated to explain.)I'll make learning fun for your child and will definitely have fun activities to do when we have spare time. Teaching is a great way to educate and to learn. As a tutor, first, I see the student’s understanding level. I plan ahead of time and prepare proper material. However, if the material is provided, I find effective methods of teaching, and teach each student accordingly. It’s obvious that some techniques work better for some students but not others. Therefor, I choose a good teaching method, and assist students to learn the material better, faster and easier.
As a recent graduate of San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minor in Psychology, I have taken many classes in biology, physics, algebra, psychology, chemistry as well as organic chemistry. I learned how to plan, provide and educated students by teaching and tutoring sciences and English classes for four years. Throughout my working experiences, I learned how to manage and organize an efficient ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I prepare for tutoring sessions by asking any prospective students to please send me their study material prior to our sessions (at least a day please!). This helps me evaluate what may be needed to master the material for their class and is just one of the ways that I cater to my students needs and prepare them for success. I am a firm believer in asking questions. Not only do I ask questions, but I also constantly encourage students to ask me questions as well. This helps me better gauge where they are struggling and where I need to assist most in fortifying their understanding.
I am a recent graduate from UCSD that majored in Human Biology and Psychology. I have 5 cumulative years of tutoring in a variety of subjects. I have one year of experience teaching at the junior college level at Victor Valley College. I am personally, a visual learner. I try to teach or tutor students in this way as well. If you can visualize what is being shown, then it correlates much better with what you read in the subject books. I love teaching and show enthusiasm in math and science when I talk about ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

During high school I acquired my first teaching position. I figure skated as a hobby and had been working at my local ice rink for three years. A position opened up for an assistant coach. I helped teach skating classes for toddlers up to the elderly. It was a very rewarding experience. I taught classes for that ice rink for two years until I left for college. In college I helped tutor my lab partners and classmates. Still I did not expect that I would enjoy teaching as much as I do. When I came to San Diego as a graduate student, I wanted to take a position as a Teaching Assistant for financial reasons, but when I started the position, I found it to be the most rewarding job I have ever had. I have been a teaching assistant ever since, teaching all three quarters of my graduate career.
I strive to have open lines of communication between my students and myself. I think i ... read more

As a high school student, I taught music and math to middle school kids for approximately two years. The music they learned was performed in a competitive circuit in which they placed. As an undergraduate, I served as a study proctor in my sorority from 2007-2009 tutoring in the subjects of math, science, and writing.
I believe tutoring is not only to raise children's grades, but also to make sure they understand the material so it can be applied to other principles in their future education. I believe not every student can be tutored the same way, and I have confidence that I can mold material in a way that each student can understand.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love Mathematics and I often wear my heart on sleeve; when it comes to Math, I try to infect the student with that bug. I believe that most students have issues with their immediate teaching and, as a result, feel that math has no meaning to them, hence I teach Mathematics in a contextual manner, showing deep meaning for the drills imposed in the classroom curriculums most experience daily. I stress heuristic analysis techniques that have shown great results
I have tutored HS 9-12 and undrgraduate students individually in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and for SAT/ACT testing since the late 1990's.
