Hello- Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Mandy M. I am a graduate of Morrison University with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and a year towards my Master's in Business Administration. At this point, one might wonder why I would be interested in tutoring when my education is in the accounting world. I was homeschooled for my high school years with an exceptional accredited course. The quality of my high school education prepared me well for college. Learn with experienced, successful tutor

My style of tutoring is creative flexibility. I assess the student's learning style and try to adapt to that, using different senses (kinetic, aural, oral) to trigger best responses. However, this is layered over a basic multi-part structure suited to the subject. I also like to set up a schedule of what our hour will be like, with some beginning exercises (usually recall from previous session). The rest of the hour would be structured with student input as much as possible. At the end, I like to introduce some free time to talk about the lesson and about any new ideas.
I have a masters degree in Enviornmental Biology and a BA in pre-med sciences. I also have an AA degree in Dietetics. My other hat is a long career in writing, editing, and publishing. I have 6 years of substitute teaching experience in the Washoe County School District in Nevada, as well as at a charter school. Substitute teaching has allowed me to work with children from preschool to grade 12, in all subjects. I have worked twice as a preschool teacher, once at the E.L. I have a Business Speech Communications degree with a minor in English. After achieving that degree, I went on to earn a secondary teaching credential in English. Later, I found an opportunity at UNR to become a tutor at the writing center. There I direct students to better their papers (in all disciplines) by facilitating. We work on structure, content, grammar, and form. Most students leave with a better sense of direction, usually a better grade, and most certainly a better sense of self and success.
My teaching style comes more from a facilitators approach, and not a micro-management view. I have learned for the most part that students have the answers to questions and have original ideas, given the appropriate direction and positive support.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always been driven as a student. I earned my bachelor's degree in only 3 and a half years, and I will begin a terminal degree program this fall when I begin an MFA program at Eastern Washington University.
