I am seeking to make a difference.

Hello- Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Mandy M. I am a graduate of Morrison University with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and a year towards my Master's in Business Administration. At this point, one might wonder why I would be interested in tutoring when my education is in the accounting world. Well, the simple answer is that I possess many facets to my education and wish to help the next generation obtain the knowledge that I was privileged to be given. I was homeschooled for my high school years with an exceptional accredited course. The quality of my high school education prepared me well for college. While the English and Math programs were detailed and grueling, I have retained the information and used it to grow. I have no experience as yet in tutoring. Learn with experienced, successful tutor

My style of tutoring is creative flexibility. I assess the student's learning style and try to adapt to that, using different senses (kinetic, aural, oral) to trigger best responses. However, this is layered over a basic multi-part structure suited to the subject. I also like to set up a schedule of what our hour will be like, with some beginning exercises (usually recall from previous session). The rest of the hour would be structured with student input as much as possible. At the end, I like to introduce some free time to talk about the lesson and about any new ideas.
I have a masters degree in Enviornmental Biology and a BA in pre-med sciences. I also have an AA degree in Dietetics. My other hat is a long career in writing, editing, and publishing. I have 6 years of substitute teaching experience in the Washoe County School District in Nevada, as well as at a charter school. Substitute teaching has allowed me to work with children from preschool to grade 12, in all subjects. I have worked twice as a preschool teacher, once at the E.L. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been preparing and conducting adult coursework for a variety of computer - based applications and software for 15 or more years. The courses were done in large lecture environments (30 or more at a time) and also small or individuals sessions, and remote (phone and web-ex) deliveries. I am experienced in assessing group attitude and individual needs and am told that I am very adept at putting my "students" at ease, both through delivery style and in customizing and breaking down the materials for the particular person or group. I am a mother of 2 grown children and one young grandchild. When my children were in elementary school I volunteered at least 1/2 day each week in their classrooms - helping as needed. A Little Bit About Me...

A strength on which I have always prided myself is my ability to relate complex concepts with useful analogies and from different angles. I never underestimate a child's ability to learn something, so long as it's in a way in which they understand it. Curriculum development is also important. By that, I mean the creation of illustrations, tables, lists, acronyms, heuristics, and flash cards to aid a student in their thirst to learn.
