My comments on tutoring Literature : I have read a wide variety of authors and even won a scholarship for an essay based on Plato's writings.

I love working one on one with a student. Wherever the student needs help or wants improvement, that is where I meet them. I'm very patient and extremely friendly, and I am determined to help a student understand in any way I can! I also think cookies help studying :) Sometimes, unusual methods like movie clips, cartoons, reading passages, or other "real-life" experiences help to solidify a topic, so I'm not afraid to think outside the box!

I have been an elementary school teacher for nearly 18 years. I taught for 7 years in Elk Creek and 10 years in Los Molinos where I currently teach 2nd and 3rd grade. I earned Glenn County Teacher of the Year in 1998 and Tehama County Teacher of the Year in 2007. I was also named Glenn County Teacher of the Week for Channel 7 News in 1999. From 1992 to 1996 I trained in study skills for the History and Geology departments at Chico State through the Equity Services Office. This included a 3 hour training session each week in addition to tutoring individually and in groups for struggling college students. This was 4 of the greatest years ever! This University training really helped prepare me for the world of teaching and tutoring.

"How many different ways can I teach a concept?" is the mentality I use when working with students. Every student learns in his/her own unique way. Being creative, adaptive, and fun are essential. I live for that "ah-ha moment" where everything clicks. It's no secret that we succeed in the things that we love doing. I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. While earning this degree I was given the opportunity to gain experience in working in various classrooms at many different grade levels.
