I believe that every student learns in their own unique way and at their own pace. I try to cater to that thought when teaching and encourage each student to become his or her own teacher. I think it is important to have a strong fundamental base, but music is more than notes and fingerings. The study of music can give one the power to look at life’s problems through a different lens and give a fresh perspective. Science can seem to be like a foreign language to the uninitiated, but at its essence science is simply a way of thinking about the world and asking questions. My teaching style with my own children is conversational, hands-on, and intuitive. I explore what most captures their attention, then weave in the lessons by using any available teaching aids, such as whiteboard drawings, to illustrate a point, literally.
My German parents spoke (so-called "high", or proper) German at home in NY/NJ, which came in handy after we moved overseas when I was 13.
