A Little Bit About Me...

This thought of Nikos Kazantzakis, Greek writer and philosopher has always reminded me of the tremendous love I have of teaching or tutoring: "Ideal teachers [tutors] are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross, then having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create bridges of their own." Instead of admiring good thought only, I usually feel concerned doing something about it. Unfortunately, in my home country, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the teaching/tutoring profession is not highly regarded, and so I did not go down that path professionally. BILINGUAL IN SPANISH AND ENGLISH ABLE TO TUTOR FROM K-12

According to the need of the student, some students are fast learning, some are slow, this is very important taking in consideration because my philosophy is that "Everybody is able to learn", we just have different learning styles.
I' ve been working for about 18 years with students from Kindergarten through 12 grade in the Petaluma Schools District in the city of Petaluma, California. I've had experience teaching English as a second language and tutoring experience teaching math, language and science. Since I've worked in a classroom setting as a Bilingual Instructional Assistant, I have acquired a lot of experience from a diverse teaching styles. In Lyon I helped young middle school children with their English at an after school program. At first this was very difficult for me but I figured out the best way to effectively help the kids learn. I found that engaging the students using their own personal interests was key. For example, using video game or cartoon magazines to start conversation topics and to help with pronunciation, spelling, etc. Kids love to learn if it's fun and exciting.
The French language has been one of my passions since I started studying it in high school. I followed this passion into college at UC Davis where I will receive my BA in French next month. I recently returned from a year long study abroad program in Lyon, France where I studied International Relations at the University of Lyon. I will also receive a BA in this subject.
