A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that being a coach, and mentor is the best way to teach children. I think that "hands on" training, or "on the job" training is the best way to learn. This is mostly true throughout our entire lives. Providing guidance, and answering questions rather than doing the work for them.
I have been working in a corporate environment for over 20 years, giving presentations, writing reports, and corresponding with all levels of management with success. Upon graduating with my bachelors degree in criminal justice, I earned a significant amount of education and experience needed to write research and literature papers. I am currently finishing my masters degree while completing my thesis. I have an extensive understanding of literature works and reading. Additionally, I have teaching experience as an adjunct professor for college seniors.
Education is fundamental for our youth as they are the foundation of the future. Teaching is a passion for me because it is adventurous. I believe that every lesson must be creative and interesting. I was more of an instructor than a teacher. I was a day camp counselor at Solway House parent/child resort in Saugerties N.Y. I instructed kids how to swim, dive, play various sports and gave dancing lessons to the guests. As a high school student I tutored 7th and 8th graders in an after school community center. I was one of a few staff at the University of Connecticut to instruct graduates and staff in the use of the various electronic facilites available to them.
I feel children are very self-aware and are very vulnerable to positive and negative feedback. Therefore, no matter how little progress is made, praise them. If no progerss is made or if an issue needs to re-addressed, praise them..."That was great, but let's try it this way!"
