I just graduated in May 2009 with my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and am currently working on obtaining my Masters Degree in Human Factors Psychology. I also obtained minor degrees in English and Entrepreneurial Studies at USD. Consequently I believe that through my studies at USD I have exemplary skills in the area of critical thinking / writing and possess a plethora of knowledge that I can pass onto a younger generation. I have always been driven to do more with my life. I have always had goals in life and often times pursued them. My BS degree in Biology was one of these goals I have accomplished. In my education at the University of South Dakota, I have learned many skills that I know I will use in the future. Some of these sills not only include the studies of Biology and Chemistry, but also my Spanish speaking skills have improved. I was valedictorian of my high school class. I was also good in sports and music. I went to college at Iowa State University and finished at the University of South Dakota with a major in communication disorders and a minor in psychology. I have a strong training background. I have held jobs in which I was a manager, which required me to train staff. I also taught computer classes (Microsoft, Internet, Basic PC) at Western Iowa Tech for a few years. I earned A's throughout my high school career; and I excelled in college in math, science and English, though I would no longer be comfortable teaching high-level science.

I have been teaching for the last fifteen years. I started my teaching career in the junior high grades and then decided that my preference would be with the younger children. I have taught both second and third grade and throughly loved both levels. I have attended various classes and workshops relating to helping children learn to read and love doing it. I have taken the South Dakota Reading Curriculum both at the second and third grade levels. I have tutored children and for four years ran the summer reading program for the Beresford area children.
I have become very familiar with the differentiated instruction model of teaching students. I love working with children and helping fulfill their potential. I like at children as water that must be directed in the right direction. I will do this my trying to find research validated methods of teaching that teaching to all the learning styles. If the child does not learn the first time I will try again and again until they have got it.
As a teacher with dyslexia I felt that I was unable to teach reading to my students. I went in search of more training and found Alphabetic Phonics a Orton Gillingham program. I have sense used what I learn in the almost 160 hours of training with 11 students and seen progress in all of them.
