My teaching style is aimed at making the child feel good and happy with learning. Often children need tutoring in subjects that frustrate them, they miss one aspect and while they're spending time on that in class the teacher blazes past them adding more confusion. I take it upon myself to back track to the initial place where the confusion stemmed from and spend the time working through these rough patches. I believe every student can be successful at math. It begins by being patient and friendly, finding out what the student knows and then finding exactly where he/she is having a problem and starting with that concept and breaking it down until it makes sense. My favorite part of teaching and tutoring is when the student finally "gets" it and from there math can become fun and easy. Or at least much less intimidating.
I unexpectedly began teaching a math class in 1997; the combination of enjoying teaching and being so successful at it eventually led me to go back to school to become a full time math teacher.
