More About This Tutor...

I am a recent Bachelor of Science in Child Studies graduate of FGCU and hold a current FCCPC. I am considered a non-traditional graduate (which in my case means older), and I bring with me a range of personal and professional experiences that have developed and enhanced my capacity for learning, teaching, and adaptability. My primary interest in learning is focused on the social-emotional and cognitive influences that create the optimal conditions for brain function during the learning process. Providing both the necessary supportive social-emotional environment through positive guidance as well as the cognitive stimulation that physical, sensory, and creative and artistic activities produce are fundamental to implementing a brain-based learning approach, and I am trained to integrate hands-on activities across the curriculum and learning domains that relate to real world experiences. ... read more

Creative Writing is one of my top subjects! Has taken 30 credits in literature, composition, and creative writing in English and German.

My teaching style is student centered. I will adapt the information according to the type of learner you are. I understand that no two students learn the same way. I create scaffolding lessons and activities focused on differentiated learning styles from hands-on learner to visual learner. My goal is to promote student learning, achievement, and success.
Since 2008, I have been a teacher and just relocated from teaching German at a high school in Pennsylvania to beautiful Sarasota. My comments on tutoring Creative Writing : I am a poet, novelist, essayist and short story writer. I have also published my own literary magazine for many years. I am the former head of the Creative Writing Program at Jefferson College in Missouri. I enjoy working with young writers and drawing their best work from them. I have also taken coursework in memoir writing and often work with seniors on their life stories.

I am a serious, dedicated professional educator who is also hip, easygoing and fun. I enjoy teaching and I will make sure you enjoy learning from me.
I have been a college and university professor of English for over three decades. I have also taught many history and humanities courses. I have taught all ages, from junior high students through traditional college-ages students to adults and seniors. I make learning fun and easy. My old next door neighbors have two children. One is a boy in elementary and one is a girl in middle school. I tutored the boy in reading and writing. He was able to read his first book on his own after a few weeks with me. I had to tutor the girl in math. she was taking algebra and was having a tough time with it. In two weeks of many meetings, she was able to pass her final exam. No matter what grade I was in, I always enjoyed going down to the ESE room and helping the special kids. I did what ever I could to help.

Education is essential for the mind to grow.

I have helped people with their English-speaking skills off and on and am very skilled in spelling and grammar. I've been learning Japanese for going on three years, as well. I'm aware that it's not a particularly high in-demand language to learn, but I am more than willing to aid in learning it if it is desired. Also, having graduated high school, I have enough knowledge to teach kids about the basics of science, math, and English.
On the whole, I look for a rather creative approach when it comes to learning and studying. I ask that students be skeptical in all they hear and read, so asking questions as a form of studying will be essential. Just reading a book or looking at flash cards for studying purposes can prove to be tedious and ineffective. And putting what's learned in context is always necessary if the subject calls for any everyday application.

I must learn from and with my students, recognize different learning styles and abilities; challenge and encourage; support all efforts and accomplishments. Goal: acquire new information;reach maximum potential.Part of my challenge + responsibility is to have every class member realize this; to impart my knowledge and experience to all; to have them gain knowledge; to capitalize on diversity so all are able to take away information; to grow academically, emotionally and intellectually. My hope is that my students attain a sense of accomplishment, achievement and success that they did not previously have. Teaching is my passion. A Little Bit About Me...

I first used my teaching skills while acting as a tour guide at the Astor House Museum in Golden, Colorado. I enjoyed communicating with school groups the history of the house museum, which was once a hotel back in the 19th century for travelers heading out to California to seek their fortune in gold. I presently work at Rosetta Stone and enjoy using my linguistic knowledge as a language consultant to help those interested in learning to speak a foreign language.
I enjoy working with junior high, high school, and college level students. I am able to communicate material that will encourage the student to be analytical and draw conclusions on his or her own, especially for subjects in the social sciences. I like to encourage students to explore and learn on their own, seeking out material that challenges their natural talents.

A Little Bit About Me...

Teach a man to fish...is for life. Tutoring is the same, especially with younger children. I haven't met a student yet who is unable to learn. My job is to find the method that will best enable students to self-actualize their learning. A success is converting the child's approach and passion for learning. If I helped to change the child's mind about learning, I have literally altered the course of his/her life in a positive way.
I have a versatile background that began with two business degrees and progressed to a professional career in purchasing and sales. I discovered along the way that my true passion was teaching and I can be more effective in a tutoring one-on-one situation than a classroom setting. I am highly proficient and have tutored nearly all subjects and grade levels.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have attained a Master's Degree in Sociology, with an undergraduat degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology. I am also fluent in Armenian. My strenghth has been in the English language, which has helped me with many research papers and also writing my Master's thesis. I also have attained certification in many computer programs. I have been tutoring friends and family for over five years, and I would like to continue with my teaching certificate.
I love to teach people of all ages because I have so much passion in education and learning. I enjoy using different techniques to help each child learn at their own pace. The best gratification is to see a smile on a child's face after they have learned or accomplished a task which they didn't understand before.
