My comments on tutoring Social Studies : I am a teacher and in my free time I travel to historical significant destinations. My students have named me the female Indiana Jones. I have been to the Roman Ruins in Trier Germany to Mayan Ruins in Mexico. I also have spent time with the Navajo and Lakota tribes out west.

My teaching style is student centered. I will adapt the information according to the type of learner you are. I understand that no two students learn the same way. I create scaffolding lessons and activities focused on differentiated learning styles from hands-on learner to visual learner. My goal is to promote student learning, achievement, and success.
Since 2008, I have been a teacher and just relocated from teaching German at a high school in Pennsylvania to beautiful Sarasota. I do have my Pennsylvania Professional Teaching Certificate and am getting my Florida one. I love to teach and enjoying inspiring others to learn more about the world around them. I have lived in Germany and am fluent in German. I also am a huge history buff and have traveled to over 20 countries.

Experienced Educator who wants your child to love learning.

I have been a full-time classroom teacher at all grade levels for the last 12 years. I also have several years as a substitute teacher. I specialize in differentiating instruction for all learners. In addition, I can teach reading and writing skills using authentic sources and classroom subject matter so that students don't fall behind on content-learning at the expense of practice with unrelated materials.
I have a very engaging manner with students. I feel that learning is a joy, rather than a chore and I try to pass that attitude on to my students. I use frequent checks for understanding and reteaching when necessary. I also believe that a student's own insights and questions can guide learning to its highest levels.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a student at the University of South Florida, I was required to complete three levels of internships. In my last internship, I was in complete charge of the class. I used assessments to plan my lessons, seeing if I could go on to the next lesson or needed to review. I am a very enthusiastic teacher, and I have had several of my interning teachers, students, and cooperating teachers tell me that I make learning fun. In addition to my BS degree, I have had experience tutoring co-workers and friends in high school algebra and college algebra. Lastly, I am a basketball/volleyball coach for the YMCA and I coached for Venice High School girls varsity basketball.
I have strong desire and passion to work with children! I have a very positive and enthusiastic approach using differentiated instruction, Kagan Cooperative Learning strategies, and Bloom's Higher Order Thinking. I make learni ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Even though I hold a business degree I have always had a love for working with children. As a college student I worked for two different families as a nanny, where I assisted a total of five children with their school work and projects among other things. After obtaining my BS in Finance from the University of Central Florida I went on to get married and work in a bank. It was shortly after that when I realized that my real passion was with children. When I became pregnant I left my banking position to be a stay at home mom. Since then I have had four children and currently subsitute teach for Sarasota County School Board.
I love working with children and seeing them get excited to learn new information. I feel that all children are very capable of learning, just some need that extra one on one attention that is not possible to receive in a classroom setting. I love that loo ... read more

I enjoy working with junior high, high school, and college level students. I am able to communicate material that will encourage the student to be analytical and draw conclusions on his or her own, especially for subjects in the social sciences. I like to encourage students to explore and learn on their own, seeking out material that challenges their natural talents.
I first used my teaching skills while acting as a tour guide at the Astor House Museum in Golden, Colorado. I enjoyed communicating with school groups the history of the house museum, which was once a hotel back in the 19th century for travelers heading out to California to seek their fortune in gold. I presently work at Rosetta Stone and enjoy using my linguistic knowledge as a language consultant to help those interested in learning to speak a foreign language.

Teach a man to fish...is for life. Tutoring is the same, especially with younger children. I haven't met a student yet who is unable to learn. My job is to find the method that will best enable students to self-actualize their learning. A success is converting the child's approach and passion for learning. If I helped to change the child's mind about learning, I have literally altered the course of his/her life in a positive way.
I have a versatile background that began with two business degrees and progressed to a professional career in purchasing and sales. I discovered along the way that my true passion was teaching and I can be more effective in a tutoring one-on-one situation than a classroom setting. I am highly proficient and have tutored nearly all subjects and grade levels.

My career in education began thirteen years ago. I started by volunteering in my son's classes as well as in the library. While volunteering in the library, I taught children how to do to research, write essays and reports, construct Power Point presentations and, finally, how to present their work in front of their peers. I attended the substitute training course and, as a substitute, I have worked with children of all ages and backgrounds as well as in all subjects. More recently, I received my BA in History and my certifications to teach Elementary Education, Art K-12, Earth/Space Science 6-12, and Social Studies 6-12 (which encompasses US history, World History, Geography, Psychology, Religion, and Sociology).

Through my experience I have developed my own techniques. I recognize the importance of individualizing instruction for each student. I also feel that a student's ability to excel is greatly increased by focused one-on-one instruction.
I am currently enrolled in a graduate program for counselor education. I have a Masters in Education from Harvard University and have been teaching high school English in Westchester County, NY for the past three years. During my time as an undergraduate, I developed and supervised the tutoring program for the Minority Student Education Guild, which offered free tutoring to underprivileged students in the Gainesville area. If I could say that there was something I was meant to be, I would say that I was meant to be a teacher. Of all the experiences in my life I have found the most satisfying right after being a father is being a teacher. Everyone including students want to feel successful. I also believe that success is a great motivator for learning. I gear my teaching around mutual respect and then find a level of work where the student can have immediate success. Students respond to teachers who they feel are personally invested in their success. The teacher I most admired from my middle school years was not patient, easy going or considerate, yet I achieved at a high level because I knew that he cared.
Upon graduating from Queens College I obtained a position as a middles school science teacher in New York’s Spanish Harlem. After 2 ½ years of dealing with extremely difficult and dangerous situat ... read more
