In college I focused on writing and editing with a creative outlet involving poetry and some acting. I am now enrolled as a Biology major, finding that my study skills I developed as a writing student are very helpful in a field that is fundamentally different. I have been teaching piano and bass guitar to students for almost 10 years. I am a 4.0 student who has mastered the ability to study efficiently. In 2010, I was awarded a teaching assistantship at the University of New Mexico where I was asked to teach 2 undergraduate classes in communication. However, I rejected this position as I accepted a Master's program at a different University, but underwent the training required for TA's at UNM. I believe that students learn best in an environment that promotes encouragement and relational interaction with their tutors. While I believe in creating a stress free, fun environment, I believe in helping students set their own rigorous goals. I am skilled at helping students create plans that help them achieve the goals they have in their education. I have done much sales and customer service work, as well as teaching. I think listening is key, recognizing the humanity in each person, and relating to it while communicating. In teaching, setting expectations is important... expectations of what the goal is; what they will learn, and then adapting it to the abilities of that individual. Again, as I said, I think listening is key, and empathizing with the individual. Of course you have to set standards, such as homework expected, and tests (as a teacher). I am hands on. I am very parient and to not get frustrated easily. I do not have an age preference becuase I enjoy working with all age groups. I am personaly continuing with my Masters in September of this year. I cannot express how important education is to further your ability to care and provide for your family. I love working with children on this subject as well. I have taken MANY communication and diversity/ethics classes and have a firm understanding of how to approach and communicate with people on many educational and social levels.
