My teaching style is mostly relaxed, like a causal conversation. I have found people to be much more responsive to learning in this kind of atmosphere. I like to find out what my clients understanding level is, work with them towards strengthening that understanding, and use a verity of learning approaches to help them become self-sufficient in the area.
"In the second grade my mom sent me to tutor. She was an older women and had once been a prominent local educator. She would sit me at her dining room table and have me do my homework while she watched soap operas in the next room. My experience was stagnant. I hated going to her house and I hated school work. In elementary and middle school, I was a C and D kind of student." "In the eighth grade we moved to a new city and I got a new tutor. It was at an after school program. There was one paid professional and two high school ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe the first step is to always ascertain where a student is in their comprehension of the subject and what their propensity is to learn (i.e. quick learner, learns by examples etc.). That gives me an idea of how fast/slow to go and how best to get to cement actual learning. Generally, I like to get the student to arrive at answers by asking pointed questions so that their minds can understand the process versus simply memorizing the answers. I also believe in providing both positive feedback as well as constructive criticism where needed.
I have always been fascinated by numbers and how the analysis of numbers can be used in nearly everything we do. I have a MBA from a top 20 program that has helped me further develop my mathematical skills in statistics and calculus. I have helped tutor children in various after-school volunteer programs and was a paid tutor whil ... read more

I like to teach by example and immersion. So much of what schools preach today is rote memorization, and to a certain degree, this cannot be avoided. But whenever possible, I like to try and find real world applications and demonstrations to get my lessons across to my pupil.
Throughout high school and college, I've always excelled in my school work. I was president of the math club and often tutored my peers during my spare time. The University of Florida has provided me with a well rounded education, and I feel myself knowledgable in many areas, from languages like french, spanish and hindi, to the sciences like chemistry, biology, and physics. I'm also very familiar with writing term papers.

I remember thinking years ago: "What will I ever use this for?" In tutoring my children, sometimes their friends, in addition to training my employees, I strive to create excitement by showing a need and an application for new information. I tend to retain information if I have a use for the knowledge, and believe others feel the same. Ignorance is simply the lack of information, and can be corrected with the proper presentation and guidance. The challenging and most rewarding is to find the method that "clicks" with the student, and seeing the light of realization in their eyes.
Growing up the son of an English teacher, and a high school principal, education was obviously paramount in the home environment. I graduated from Indiana University with Business Degree, most of my work experience was in training and development of new employees, with a strong emphasis on demonstration, e ... read more

I believe the best way to teach is to relate the subject to the children. A child may not understand fractions but if you ask them to divide up a candy bar, they know how many pieces they want to split it in to and how many they want. I believe that listening is the key to teaching. A good teacher and a good listener is the difference between a child attending school and a child excelling in school.
While living in Japan, I taught English to the Japanese nationals and was a teacher's aide in the Department of Defense Dependent's Schools in the special needs department. I worked directly with middle school children who had ADD, ADHD as well as other physical handicaps including Cerebral Palsy. I have 3 children that I have had to help with their homework and projects throughout the years. I enjoy working with children and believe education is the key to developing responsible ... read more

I have been a volunteer Sunday School Teacher for about twenty years teaching children and adults from ages 3 to 93. A Little Bit About Me...

As I discovered while in college, I have been instructing people all of my life. While working in the food-service industry for the past twenty-plus years, I have held supervisory positions and provided training to literally hundreds of employees. This natural ability to work with others became apparent when I began tutoring. I have strong organizational skills and have been trained in many aspects of tutoring through my involvement in the Supplemental Instruction Program at Florida Gulf Coast University. As a non-traditional student working toward overcoming disability, I have compassion and determination in my own personal presentation which lends to my authenticity.

I have been working in the banking field for over 15 years since I graduated with a degree in business. In Jan. 2009 I was laid off from a banking job for the second time. I am doing a career change to teaching. I have been hired as football coach at Estero High School, I will be working as a teacher this fall 2009. I have been fingerprinted by Lee County School and I am cleared to be employed. I have a son that is 8 years old I help with his home work every night. Last year in the second grade they wanted him to stay back, I said I would help him. This year in second grade he is making E & S Honor Roll.
My teaching style would be the same way I teach my son. I give him the opportunity to learn. I work with him. I put the time in to help him. I take the time to help him, and if he get a problem wrong I help him correct it.

I believe that students of all levels learn from auditory, visual and hands on experience. Each has their own preference and more often than not, uses at least two types of this knowledge. Allowing students the access of these skills will only increase their ability to thrive. Each student will perform according to their own capability using all of these skills. Students that I have viewed tend to also learn from each other in smaller groups with at least one student who excels. Smaller groups tend to bond, listen and retain the material given to them. I have personally participated in games which enhances each student. For example, using words to improve vocabulary in a bingo game or multiplication cards in which the first student in line to answer the question correctly wins or reading a book and asking students questions from that reading will ensure me that they understand ... read more
