A Little Bit About Me...

I like to teach by example and immersion. So much of what schools preach today is rote memorization, and to a certain degree, this cannot be avoided. But whenever possible, I like to try and find real world applications and demonstrations to get my lessons across to my pupil.
Throughout high school and college, I've always excelled in my school work. I was president of the math club and often tutored my peers during my spare time. I believe the first step is to always ascertain where a student is in their comprehension of the subject and what their propensity is to learn (i.e. quick learner, learns by examples etc.). That gives me an idea of how fast/slow to go and how best to get to cement actual learning. Generally, I like to get the student to arrive at answers by asking pointed questions so that their minds can understand the process versus simply memorizing the answers. I also believe in providing both positive feedback as well as constructive criticism where needed.

I believe the best way to teach is to relate the subject to the children. A child may not understand fractions but if you ask them to divide up a candy bar, they know how many pieces they want to split it in to and how many they want. I believe that listening is the key to teaching. A good teacher and a good listener is the difference between a child attending school and a child excelling in school.
