All children are students; they can learn. The question is how best do they learn? I have used many differing styles from rote memorization through self-paced self-education. I encourage students to see the wonder and "mystery" (there really isn't any mystery) of Math, regardless of the level, in the real world. To that aid, I try to present real world problems at levels the student can understand. For lower level students, I investigate with them the development of the linear equations involved in setting up a relationship between two factors. A higher level student would solve multiple linear equations. A height vs. time linear relationship then can become quadratic, thus involving sports as an application.

I believe that each student has a unique way of learning and I try to adapt my teaching to the class. My philosophy is that what we learn in class has to be reinforced with the homework. I review the homework each day. When the homework is reviewed there is a clear understanding that if there is an area the student is struggling with we don't move on until the concept in understood.
