Statistics help!

I've been teaching high school math for 18 years, and AP Statistics for 12 of those. I have had high success rates in my classes on the AP exam and really like the subject. I tutor my own students for free after school and am very successful at helping those that struggle with statistics. I would love to tutor either AP Statistics students at other schools, or students from local colleges.

I am a Sac State graduating senior in civil engineering. My area of interest is water and environmental engineering, but I have excelled in all of my classes. I have no professional experience, but I have a lot of experience studying with classmates and friends. I can help you with math, statistics, and chemistry

Starting in October of 2008, I was an Instructional Assistant at Sacramento City College for three semesters. I help students with math, statistics, and science. I also gave workshops in study skills, learning styles, test preparation, test taking, and stress management. At the same time I began tutoring on a private basis. At this point I have more than three years of tutoring experience and I have worked with students of all ages from 10 years old through 55+ years old. I also have prepared students to take AP exams in the areas of calculus and statistics. One of my students was a 12-year old who passed the AP calculus exam after four months of instruction(he had no formal coursework). I currently have several regular students in the areas of chemistry, statistics, and geometry.
I provide a relaxed atmosphere for students with encouragement and positive reinforcement. I make inde ... read more

Tutoring To Ensure Success

Hello! To provide some background information on myself: I am a current student at California Polytechnic SLO, double majoring in both computer science and physics. I graduated from Mira Loma High School’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, following the most rigorous curriculum offered at the school, including, but not limited to, courses such as IB Math Further Level. I have had a great deal of experience tutoring students throughout my four years at high schools and this passion has continued on into my university years. I have tutoring students at the university level in both math and the sciences (I specialize primarily in physics and chemistry). I have experience teaching any level of middle school or high school mathematics ranging from Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus AB/BC, and SAT/ACT Math prep. More About This Tutor...

After earning my BS in Biological Sciences from UC Santa Barbara, I decided to live abroad in South America as a Peace Corps Volunteer to help others and put what I learned to practical use. I was stationed in Bolivia where I taught natural resource management, ecology, basic science, and nutrition to children as well as adults. I am fluent in both English and Spanish. In high school, I also tutored elementary school children and enjoyed it greatly.
I believe that positive reinforcement, patience, and a genuine desire to see one’s students excel is the best way to success. I feel that the only way to get through to a child is to be his or her friend first and foremost, and to treat him or her as an equal. I love being both a tutor and a friend. My approach to teaching is more hands-on, rather than lecture based, because I feel that if the child is actively participating the lesson ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching children is a passion of mine. They soak in the knowledge like a sponge. I am patient, easy going, but also know the task at hand. I try to find the best way to teach that individual child. Every child learns in a different way. I seek to find that way. Since I learn best in a hands-on manner I try to teach that same way.
I was taught at a early age to be the best I possibly could. I was taught to do my best. That has stuck with me all the way through college. I have earned a BS degree in Communication which has given me a knowledge of how to write effectively. I took an editing course which focused on the fundamentals of writing along with correct editing skills. I have had the opportunity to teach individuals in their home while serving a church mission for two years. Also within my church I have taught children the doctrinal basics of the church.

People are always surprised when they find out I'm a math nerd. I'm outgoing, I like to joke and I play sports. But believe it or not, I actually do enjoy math and this is one of the biggest reasons for my success as a tutor/teacher. I don't fake my enthusiasm and this helps engage students. I like to think of myself as fun and I like to make a joke here and there. I believe that a lot of times, less is more when it comes to teaching math. I try to do as little leading as possible when helping students solve problems so that they will be best equipped in the future to solve on their own. I have always enjoyed teaching and I love sharing success with others.

Paraprofessional training has taught me that there are 7 unique learning styles that fit every student. I configure each student's learning style through giving them a short characteristic questionnaire. I use their learning style to incorporate proven tutoring methods into our sessions so that students can learn their best and get the most out of our sessions. I very much enjoy tutoring and this is why I offer my students to email me questions or problems they might have and I will email them back promptly with step by step instructions in how to solve the problem. I do this because I believe every child is entitled to a great education and because I know knowledge is a gateway to succeed, it is power, and ultimately it is priceless.

I had no intention of teaching when I started my career in Psychology and the Analytical Chemistry industry. I continuously tried to improve my methadology to arrive at the right mix of stimulation and information to make the learning process as interesting as possible. Teaching the Physics of Xrays and chemical analysis does challenge one to keep assessing the learned content and modify as results indicate. The results of effective teaching and learning start with asking questions about the purpose of the instructions, how will the results of the learning be measured, and what is educational level of the students? I try to teach them how to learn, rather than the concepts of facts and numbers, what do the numbers mean?

A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored math since I was a senior in high school. I aspire to become a math instructor, and I plan to go to graduate school for math. I'm a third-year math major at University of California, Berkeley. I will be graduating in Spring 2009. I have mastered my tutoring skills through working with elementary school children, high school and college students for the last three years. I think I know math really well and I'm able to assist others with math. In addition, I am very interested in math history, which enables me to blend interesting stories about math into my tutoring to inspire the tutees.
I love tutoring math and enjoy working with people. I have tutored a variety of types of students, and I never gave up on any student.
