My classroom experience with Special Education started while in college at Illinois State University, where I gained very valuable experience teaching in a variety of classrooms. For one semester, I taught in a junior high life-skills classroom where we practiced daily living skills and went out into the community so the students could practice skills such as locating items in a store, paying with money, and crossing the street. Then I spent my Fieldbase semester at two different schools. The first one was 4th and 5th grade students with learning disabilities. I achieved my M.Ed. from American Intercontinental University where I held a 4.0 GPA. The classroom and hands-on experience gave me the knowledge and experience needed to face the demands of educators today. During the last four years, I worked mostly with adult learners, but a few high school students. I worked mostly in corporate training and development, but the high school students afforded me the opportunity to tutor in research, reading comprehension and composition. I have helped adult learners refine their sills in executive level composition for email, public speaking and reporting.
While I like students to know that I am an expert in my subject field, I also want them to take the opportunity to learn critical thinking skills.
