I was previously a dance instructor, and understand the basic principles of advancing within a certain skill. I have the patience and determination to yield results from a young educator. I currently hold a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Speech and Language Pathology. Through my undergraduate degree at the University of Iowa, I have learned about many speech disorders and the processes and basic understandings of changing behavior. Within speech and hearing I found a passion for American Sign Language. I became certified in American Sign Language and Deaf Studies at the university of Iowa and would like to pursue a career involving Sign Language.

My comments on tutoring Sign Language : Certified educational sign language interpreter.

Sign langugage is a visual language and can be taught in various formats. My goal is to match whichever learning style is best to accomodate the specific student.
I am in my second year as a certified/licensed sign language interpreter. I currently interperet at West Aurora High school. I also interpret at many local churchs including weekly Mass or services, religious education or children's church. I interpret for local park districts in the area from theater arts to sport activities.

Since graduating from Northern Illinois University, I have had several experiences teaching children at the elementary and middle school age. I was a nanny for a family of three for a year right after graduating. It was a wonderful experience and gave me the opportunity to create my own lessons and activities for the children. In 2005 I obtained a degree in Sociology with a minor in Spanish and in 2009 obtained a masters degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. I have worked with children of normal intelligence and what cognitive disabilities. Although my degrees are not directly related to math, I use mathmatical concepts daily. I bring to the table the ability to use math terms in a day to day experience, rather than just in a classroom setting.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching children and being able to see them learn. It is awesome to see and hear when they finally "get it" or when they understand something that I taught them. Moreover, when a student gives you an answer to a question and uses an example of something that you taught them earlier, it really shows you how quickly they can pick things up. My teaching "style" is very open--I will have an outline and while I am presenting I will sometimes ask for examples from the students to help get us through the outline together. You can't speak AT them; you have to involve the students in what you are teaching them.
