The Achievement Centers, our after school tutorial/diagnostic clinic and before and after school care, is available for all ages and subjects. Tutoring and diagnostic testing is available after school, evenings (Monday – Friday) and Saturday mornings. The clinic is available year-round. Our testing clinician and school psychologist offer a Psychoeducational Evaluation to all new students. The testing is scheduled for two three hour sessions on separate days during after school hours. The evaluation consist of various test measuring a student’s cognitive abilities, processing skills, IQ, and academic levels. The evaluation will determine a student’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as how they think, reason and process information. A conference will be held with the family and/or the student. I am a graduate accounting student at NIU, emphasizing in the study of taxation. My undergraduate accounting degree is also from NIU. I am currently studying for the CPA exam. I have been a graduate assistant for a taxation course and a managerial accounting course. I have tutored business statistics and financial statement auditing. All of my previous formal teaching experience is at the undergraduate-level. I teach in a discussion style; A one-on-one lecture format. I have found that this, in concert with working examples, is a good way for students to learn. However, I understand that many people learn in different ways, and I am willing to accommodate.

My early teaching and learning style was to do as many problems that were thrown at me in class or the text. I learned quickly that you need to understand the problem in order to solve problems that aren't set up for you. I enjoy teaching and have a lot of patience with my students becuase I believe they all have the potential to meet and exceed their expectations with the proper tutuledge. I have multiple degrees in computer and electrical engineering from Purdue University. I also have a partial degree in Accelerated Associates in Culinary Arts from Kendall College and a few classes in Computer Science in the Masters program in Computer Science and the University of Illinois Chicago. I feel that learning is best acheived when both the student and the tutor are approaching the problem from the same perspective. I had spent most of my professional career with the Follett Higher Education Group and sincerely enjoyed working in this academic environment.
